This unique program consists of two courses depending on the student's goal in preparing for a career working in a veterinary practice, boarding facility, shelter or other location. Both courses are required for those students who wish to become a National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA). Earning this credential requires students to pass the Vet Assistant course and complete a 100-hour externship at an appropriate facility. Completers may sit for the NAVTA exam. Those who achieve successful program completion and AVA status may be eligible to earn advanced standing at Bergen Community College's Veterinary Technical Program.
